The full team flew in to Santo Domingo today, where we joined a small contingent of coordinators who had arrived several days ago to make final preparations. Our clinical activities start tomorrow, with a pre-operative clinic in the morning, followed by the first total joint replacement surgeries in the afternoon.
Lauren Ehrlichman (Orthopedic Surgery Resident and Chief Medical Officer), Barbara Aggouras (Nursing Coordinator) Roya Ghazinouri (Chief Operating Officer), Paul Laemmle (OR Coordinator) and Debbie Pitts (Cargo Coordinator) flew down early to make sure everything was ready to go when the team arrived.
Pictured here are the nurses from the Hospital General de la Plaza de la Salud after an orientation meeting today. They work closely with our nurses from Boston to care for the patients after surgery, and are an invaluable part of the team.
Mark Chisham (Surgical Technologist), Tom Parisi (Orthopedic Surgery Resident), Carl Harper (Orthopedic Surgery resident and former Chief Medical Officer of Operation Walk Boston) and Forrest Schwartz (Orthopedic Surgery resident) pose for an early morning photo at Logan Airport prior to departure
The itinerary for the week is packed; each day we have 8-12 surgeries, follow-up clinics for the patients we operated on in prior years, and educational activities with the health care providers who work at the Hospital General de la Plaza de la Salud.
Forrest H. Schwartz, MD (Orthopedic Surgery Resident)
